When Empowerment Becomes Contagious – A Look at WAPP (Women and Progress Program)

Empowerment is not just about giving—it’s about igniting a spark that creates ripples of transformation. At the Titita Foundation, this belief fuels our flagship initiative: the Women and Progress Program (WAPP).

Breaking the Cycle of Dependency

In many communities across northern Nigeria, women shoulder the responsibility of keeping families afloat—yet they often lack access to formal employment, education, or capital. WAPP was designed to break this cycle. We offer practical vocational training in tailoring, food processing, crafts, and basic digital skills, combined with financial literacy and small business development.

Each woman who joins WAPP is not just gaining skills; she’s reclaiming her agency.

A New Beginning for Miriam

Take Miriam, for example—a single mother displaced by conflict, living in Borno State. When she joined the program, she had no formal education and was barely making ends meet by doing odd jobs. After completing a three-month tailoring course through WAPP, she received a starter kit including fabric, needles, and a sewing machine.

Today, Miriam has a loyal customer base and sews uniforms for two nearby schools. She’s teaching her younger sister to sew and dreams of opening a training center for young girls.

“I never imagined that I could provide for my family and still feel proud every day,” she says. “Titita Foundation gave me more than skills—they gave me purpose.”

Creating a Ripple Effect

What makes WAPP stand out is its community multiplier effect. Graduates are encouraged to mentor others, and several have formed savings groups and mini-cooperatives. The result? A network of empowered women supporting one another and contributing to local economies.

The stories are many, but the message is clear: Empowerment is contagious. When one woman rises, she pulls others with her.

Join us in expanding WAPP to more communities. With your support, we can train 100 more women by year’s end—and help transform families, villages, and futures.
